CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, CHICO is pleased to announce two tenure-track
positions (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Anthropology
(http://www.csuchico.edu/anth) beginning August 1999.

The FIRST position requires a Ph.D. in anthropology (cultural emphasis) and
museum expertise; experience and interests in symbolic
interpretation/representation, visual anthropology, and multimedia. The
successful candidate must demonstrate a record of scholarly and/or creative
activity and demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of
methodologies (seminar, lecture/discussion, practicum, etc.). Demonstrated
ability and/or interest in working in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural
environment. In addition to the Ph.D. in anthropology the successful candidate
 should demonstrate training and/or experience in a broad range of museum
functions including exhibit preparation and design, education and public
outreach, collections management, curation, administration, as well as
interpretation.

The SECOND position also requires a Ph.D. in anthropology with an emphasis on
historic and/or prehistoric archaeology of North America. Technical/topical
expertise open but should complement existing faculty and may include lithic
analysis, obsidian hydration/sourcing, GIS, paleoethnobiology or
archaeometry. Field experience, CRM training and involvement, and a
willingness to conduct archaeological research in Northern California are
essential. The successful candidates must demonstrate a record of scholarly
and/or creative activity and potential for effective teaching using a variety
of methodologies (seminar, lecture/discussion, field courses, etc.).

Teaching responsibilities of undergraduate and graduate level courses vary
for each position.  Individuals will also engage in scholarly and creative
activities per University Retention, Tenure, and Promotion guidelines.

Depending on qualifications and experience the salary range for both
positions is between $37,956 to $47,844. Review of applications will begin
