About the internship
---------------------------

The e-mail newsletter intern will assist with the publishing operations of
the National Museum of American History’s monthly e-mail newsletter.  The
intern will gain exposure to the process of developing and publishing museum
content by collaborating with curators, museum educators, exhibition
designers, and others.

As an intern in fall 2007 you will coordinate and write at least three
issues of the monthly e-mail newsletter, including researching and writing
behind-the-scenes stories and working with curators on new "Featured Object"
pieces.  The intern will be expected to help with general Web site updates
including posting new events, press releases, and other information using
the Web site content administration tool (advanced HTML skills are not
required).

Your skills and experience
------------------------------------

We are looking for applicants with strong writing and organizational skills.
 Please be sure to describe your writing experience in your application. 
Basic skills in digital photo editing and HTML programming/Dreamweaver
experience are a plus.  You should be at least upper-level college or
graduate student and have an interest in American history or museums or in
using new media technologies for educational purposes.


Hours
---------

* Minimum 20 hours per week.  Flexible schedule.
* This position is unpaid.
* The Museum does not award college credit, but many U.S. colleges and
universities will recognize academic work performed while interning at the
Museum.

The National Museum of American History dedicates its collections and
scholarship to inspiring a broader understanding of our nation and its many

The New Media Program strives to create experiences that extend the Museum’s
exhibitions and collections and unite the best qualities of a Museum visit
with the flexibility and interactivity of new media technology.  Goals of
the program include:

Encourage interaction and participation inside and outside the Museum 
Promote the Museum and attract audiences 
Use electronic media to support and disseminate Museum scholarship
