Perhaps "tectonic plate" would be a better way of putting it;
however, I suppose then that would make India and a number of smaller
land masses (and areas of water on the surface!) continents as well.
Personally, if someone told me there were six continents, I would
make the assumption that Australia was one of these, and that Eurasia
was one (and only one) as well.  My two cents worth.
