COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT
COLLECTION SERVICES DEPARTMENT 

POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide assistance to the Collection Services Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the safe handling of art objects as required by staff and researchers
Retrieve and replace objects in storage as needed and maintain current location information
Construct conservation-sound storage mounts for objects
Share responsibility of data entry on the Museum's collection database
Must be willing to work off-site
Assist Collections Management Team in all areas of collection care and installation

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of accepted procedures for handling large, small, and fragile art objects
Knowledge and skill in constructing archival storage mounts
Skilled with tools and knowledge of building materials
Good organizational skills, able to meet and maintain schedules
Ability to erect storage furniture and equipment
Ability to lift heavy objects
Ability to work independently or with a team
Ability to work flexible hours when required

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
BA with major coursework in studio art, art history, anthropology, archaeology or museum studies

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in art handling and collections management
