Jane,

If I may suggest, don't always look at the catalog of an exhibit, because
that doesn't always represent the total research done for the exhibit.
Exhibit research is a different beast than researching for an article or a
book; in many cases it has to be broader, and more focused on stories than
analysis.

A good resource to look at is the book, "Ideas and Images: Developing
Interpretive History Exhibits," edited Kenneth L. Ames, Barbara Franco, and
L. Thomas Frye. It's an excellent book, because it follows the process for
doing exhibits from several different-sized institutions, and it's the only
resource that I've seen that really comes close to the reality of designing,
researching, and building an exhibit.
