Suburbanization:
Back in the mid-80s I worked on an exhibit for the Jackson
Homestead in Newton, Massachusetts, on the development of
Newton through several eras of suburbanization, from the
railroad suburbs of the 1840s to post WWII. It was also funded
by NEH. I'd try there. Also, the magazine METROPOLIS, published
in New York, has done a number of really good pieces on the
design, philosophy, and sociology of historical suburbs.
 
It's a great topic, much too long neglected by everybody!
