what about a digital slide-show instead?
can be just as interactive
without many of the problems you are experiencing.
used computers are CHEAP right now...
i dont know a  lot about most of the things you discuss on this list...
but i am a graphics specialist.
would LOVE to help with this kind of thing (volunteer).
