Music is a powerful artifact that can document and interpret the human
experience. As with three-dimensional objects, music has the ability to
inspire, enlighten, provoke, educate, motivate, and advocate. Music also
expresses the ideas and attitudes of the people, culture and societies
that create, consume, and preserve it.

Stomping the Blues & Shouting at the Devil:
The Material Culture of Music (October 20, 2001)

explores the material culture of music and how museums can integrate it
into their educational programs and exhibits, as well as use music to
connect with new audiences and communities. This conference is organized
by the Cooperstown Graduate Association (CGA) and the Cooperstown Graduate
Program (CGP), a nationally known, two-year Masters Degree museum studies
program co-sponsored by the State University of New York at Oneonta and
the New York State Historical Association.

The sessions will be held at the Fenimore Art Museum of the New York State
Historical Association, located on State Highway 80, Lake Road,
Cooperstown, NY on October 20, 2001.

For more information or to register, please contact Catherine Raddatz at
(607) 547-2586, or visit http://cgp.oneonta.edu/cga2001.html.

This conference is made possible in part by Otsego County Bed Tax
