Museums & Social Issues

Museums & Social Issues is currently accepting submissions for a new journal
section that will feature short overviews of museum projects or exhibits
that address social issues for Vol. 2 (1). Contributions should be brief
(100-130 words) and accompanying photographs are welcome. We will select
8-12 submissions to appear in each issue.

Possibilities include (but are not limited to): Digital privacy rights,
GLBT-related issues, human rights, immigration, politics, and personal
expression.

Example: “Understanding racial discrimination is difficult for everyone,
especially youth. The XYZ Museum, Anywhere, USA is meeting this issue head
on with its new after school program for middle school students. Thanks to
a grant from the Generous Grantor X, students will work with local community
leaders and museum staff to create an online exhibit about racial
discrimination in their city. The new website will also feature an online
bulletin board, discussion area for local classrooms, and a ‘gallery’
for student artwork. It is hoped that this project will encourage students
from all backgrounds to start and continue a meaningful dialogue about
racial discrimination that will spark activism and community outreach.”

Submission deadline: October 20, 2006
