CAP is one-time grant is designed to provide small museums with the expertise
of conservation professionals. The grant and a minimal match by the museum cover
the costs for a general conservation assessment of the museum's collections,
environmental conditions, and sites. CAP assessors spend two days on-site and
three days writing a report identifying the museum's conservation priorities. The
professional advice shared during the site visit and in the assessment reports
can form the basis for improved collections care, long-range planning, and
fund-raising for conservation.

In its 10th year of service to the field, CAP has made a significant
contribution to improving the care of museum collections and structures. Grants have been
awarded to 1,703 museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S.
Virgin Islands, U.S. Mariana Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Further information about CAP, sample application forms, and success stories
from former CAP participants may be found at www.heritagepreservation.org/PROGRAMS/
capover.htm.
