I am posting this to the list for a colleague:

Conservation Intern B  (pre-program training):     Position # 237605

Colonial Williamsburg is seeking applicants for the position Conservation Intern B (pre-program training).  This is a temporary regular full-time position for the duration of one year starting in late July, 1998.  Renewal of the position for the following year is possible.  The hiring rate is $7.00 / hr. at 37.5 hrs. per week.  Colonial Williamsburg also offers a competitive benefits package for this position.  We will be accepting applications through the end of the business day, July 17, 1998.

The conservation intern B will work under the supervising conservator to clean, maintain, and monitor artifacts in assigned exhibition areas.  They will assist in carrying out artifact examinations, preparing treatment proposals, conducting conservation treatments, and preparing associated documentation (photography, reports, etc.).  They will conduct research and receive training as deemed appropriate by the supervising conservator.

Minimum qualifications include:  
* knowledge and experience working with decorative arts objects 
* manual dexterity to handle collections
* good oral and written communication skills
* computer experience
* experience in object research and examination

All of the above requirements are generally gained through a four-year degree in decorative arts, studio art, fine art, or a related area.  

Persons with a related four-year degree who intend to pursue a career in conservation are strongly encouraged to apply.
