Oooo -- lots of good stuff to recommend. The best catalogs I would recommend
are

Amazon Dry Goods, Davenport, Iowa, 1-563-322-4138. They do a lot of costume-
related sales (fabrics, patterns, accessories) but have a nice selection of
books and reproduction objects too. (I've bought from them things like a
reproduction stereoscope, horsehair braid, cup and ball toys, handspun tops,
fans). They don't (yet, let's hope) have the ability to accept orders online,
but the catalog is definitely worth getting for the era you're talking about.

Cumberland General Store in Tennessee, 1-800-334-4640,
www.cumberlandgeneral.com (match box holder, (I've gottem from them a slate
board and pencils, wooden jumping jack, pyramid toaster, moustache comb,
straight bit)

Lehman's Hardware and Appliances in Ohio, 1-888-438-5346, www.lehmans.com.
They serve the Amish and other groups living without electricity (I found
pioneer-era hands-on objects here: washboard, cast-iron kettle, hog scraper,
butter churn, coffee grinder, handmade soap)

Jas. Townsend and Son in Indiana, 1-574-594-5852, www.jastown.com. They
provide mostly 18th century reproductions for reenactors, but might have some
valuable objects (I've bought from them things like wool carders, candle
molds, clay marbles and so on).

General victorianesque catalogs like Victorian Trading Company
(www.victoriantrading.com) often have things that aren't really reproductions
(think of old-time-type phones with modern buttons), but they do occasionally
have something accurate and useful -- like, say, accurate replicas of a
pickle caster or knife rest. I've found a few things from the Vermont Country
Store (www.vermontcountrystore.com) and once picked up a very nice,
inexpensive soap dish at The Country House (www.thecountryhouse.com).

Hope this helps and good luck in your hunt.

Best,
