Actually, we do have a stated policy that no high heels are allowed
because of the possibility of damage (we don't get into the greater
likelihood of people falling downstairs...)  The only exception we
ever make is for a once-a-year fundraising dinner that is in the
historic house -- but the participants are limited (8 max), and we
tell them about the usual policy in advance.
