DUTIES:  The incumbent provides a broad range of
coordination, management and administrative support for the
National Museum of American History's Lemelson Center and
its traveling exhibit project which is dedicated to
increasing public understanding of invention in history and
inspiring young people to explore invention.  The Center
supports research, fellowships, and documentation on
invention; produces symposia, conferences, showcase
exhibits, and public programs; and develops outreach
products, including programs and materials for school
children.  The incumbent is responsible for daily financial
management of the Center's trust funds, supervising the
process of financial transaction data entry into a central
database, reviewing reports, and preparing customized
financial reports.  He/she coordinates special projects
including small publications and showcase exhibits;
maintains mailing lists; and oversees the production of
publications such as fellowship flyer, staff newsletter, and
other program flyers.  Serves as project manager for the
annual showcase exhibits, monitoring design and production
schedules and budgets, and coordinating design and
production work with appropriate museum offices and outside
vendors.  Keeps master schedule of all Center activities and
assists with planning for major meetings by overseeing
preparation of agendas, minutes, travel arrangements, and
catering needs.  Obtains bids, draft orders and contracts
with vendors.  Performs other related functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have one year of
specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade
level. Specialized experience is experience which has
equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills
and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the
position, and that is typically in or related to the
position to be filled.  Education may be substituted for the
required specialized experience.  Two full academic years of
graduate level education or master's or equivalent degree in
a field directly related to the position meets the
requirements at the Grade 9 level. Equivalent combinations
of education and specialized experience may also be
qualifying.

Selective Factors:   (Applicants must meet all of these
mandatory requirements in order to be considered qualified
to compete for a position.)

1.      Knowledge of project management techniques/processes
including planning and coordinating special projects.
2.      Knowledge of accounting procedures, financial
reconciliation and reporting, and budget preparation,
planning, and monitoring.
3.      Skill in using personal computer for word
processing, e-mail, and automated accounting systems.

Quality Ranking Factors:  (These factors are not mandatory
to be considered for a position, but will be used to
determine who are the highest qualified candidates among
those who meet the selective factors.)

1.      Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
2.      Knowledge of contracting policies, procedures, and
regulations.
3.      Knowledge of standard museum practices and
procedures including public programming and exhibit
production techniques.

SMITHSONIAN.
