I'm forwarding this message from another list I subscribe to (STOCKPHOTO) as
someone on Museum-L may have the answer. Please
do not respond to me, but rather to John Skarstad's address in the message.

  Subject: Question for the listproc

  Joel,

I'm not sure if this is more relevant to curators of historical
collections or commercial stockphoto people. I'll leave it to you. If the
question is not suited to the list, any suggestions as to where it should
  be posted? Thanks in advance.

We recently the negatives of a postcard photographer, roughly 12500,
spanning 1890 to 1960. The subject matter is northern California,
including small towns, logging camps, mountain resorts, and the scenic
Sierra Nevadas. The negatives range from glass (10% of the collection) to
nitrate and safety film (the remaining 90%). Now that the donation is
complete, how do I find an appraiser for the donor so that her generosity
can stand her in good stead at tax time? Is there anyone in the northern
California region who has done this type of appraisal work? Thanks in
advance for your ideas and assistance.
