I need some advice... on a matter not favorably looked upon.
We have had to move all of our stored artifacts to one small space. We
HAVE to get rid of some of the items in order to maintain some type of
order. We have several items that we cannot technically use in our
collection, but had somehow been accepted countless years ago.

Our board has decided that any items the collections committee deems
unusable -- be offered back to the original donor. We will be starting
that process in the very near future. However, we are wondering how
long we should give the donor/donor family to respond to our registered
mail. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Also -- can anyone offer any first hand experiences of this type?
