                 POSITION AVAILABLE: CURATOR OF EDUCATION

The New Museum of Contemporary Art seeks a Curator of Education to head its
acclaimed education department. The Curator of Education develops,
implements, and oversees education programs including public and high
school-based programs, exhibition text, resource areas, interpretive
materials and online programs. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of
contemporary art; theories and methods of arts education; and current uses
of digital media in the visual arts. In addition they should have knowledge
of exhibition development, organizing and facilitating panels, workshops
and events; and excellent supervisory and managerial skills. The ability to
work as part of a team is essential.

Responsibilities
          *Directs the Museum's educational mission
          *Develops, implements, and oversees education programs including
           public and high school arts programs, and exhibition text, resource
           areas and interpretive materials.
          *Member of the Museum programming committee
          *Supervises education staff
          *Manages department budgets
          *Develops community outreach
          *Initiates museum-wide use of Internet and other network resources
          *Oversee the Museum's internship program
          *Reports to the Board Committee on Education


Qualifications
          *Experience in school-based arts programming
          *Extensive knowledge of contemporary art and culture
          *Commitment to innovative, interdisciplinary arts education
          *Supervisory and Administrative experience
          *Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
          *Familiarity with current developments in online and digital arts.
          *M. A. or equivalent in relevant field.

Salary:  $38,000 plus health and dental benefits
