In the process of conducting an inventory of our collections in storage, I
have come across a number of items (photos, books, documents) affected by
mold. These have been sealed in plastic trash bags and quarantined from
the rest of the collections. Unfortunately, I have also been experiencing
health problems caused by exposure to mold. Needless to say, I am staying
away from the affected areas for the time being.

My concerns are two-fold: 1) safeguarding the collections from further
contamination and eliminating the mold, and 2) the health and safety of
myself or anyone else who works with the collections. I have been
scouring the Museum List Serve archives and various internet resources for
information and literature on dealing with the presence of mold in
museums, archives, and libraries. While these sources have been very
helpful and informative, I am hoping that some of you who have dealt with
a mold outbreak wouldn't mind sharing your own experiences, advice, etc.,
with me. If you'd rather, please email me off-list. Thanks in advance.
