While Excel is a fantastic spreadsheet application. It is not a database
application. yes, I know it has data sorting and grouping features. it can
even import and/or connect to data from an actual database.

I don't want to step on any toes here, but I have seen way too many excel
spreadsheets treated like databases. just one very basic problem that you
can run into using a spreadsheet this way is the constant retyping of common
data. one typo could cause a vital piece of information to not show up in a
search.

Again, Excel is a fantastic application, I use it often when what I need is
a spreadsheet. But, what kajal is looking for here is definitely a
database, whether is built in Access, Filemaker, SQL Server, or some off the
shelf product that addresses the needs presented (which is possible).

Cheers,
Gary Acord

Hi Kajal,

I'm a big advocate of MS Excel! Excel is not a traditional
and limited spreadsheet. It is capable of mathematical
function (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
averaging, etc.), database functions (searching and sorting
data), and graphing. So, with a bit of work in setting up
charts/graphs (with the necessary formulae), you would be
able to easily track basic information AND calculate and
graph results.
