Head Preparator. The Frist Center for the Visual Arts, a major art exhibition center located in Nashville, Tennessee, is seeking a Head Preparator who will work closely with curators, registrars, exhibition designers, conservators, artists and other museum staff to produce high-quality exhibitions. The ideal candidate will assist in the planning, preparation, security, installation, and deinstallation of museum exhibitions and other display materials. Key responsibilities include coordination and supervision of art handling teams and coordinating display, packing, crating, and maintenance of exhibitions, galleries, art storage areas, and preparatory spaces.
Bachelor's degree preferred with at least five years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the essential job functions. Requires fine arts handling experience, knowledge of basic carpentry tools and machinery, and knowledge about materials used in the construction of museum exhibits. Project supervision and hands-on experience with and understanding of conservation issues specific to the handling and preservation of works of art in all media are also expected.
