You have touched on a curator vs. archivist controversy.  From a curator's
standpoint I lament the breaking apart of a photoraph album.  What a
fascinating artifact of one's life! The stories it might tell!.  I believe
that the instinct to rip it apart to "organize the photos" can be solved by
creating a working file of duplicate photographs that are maintained in
proper archival storage.  I am sure that we shall hear from an archivist on
this matter.
