Symposium -- Painted Wood: History and Conservation, sponsored by the
             Wooden Artifacts Group of the American Institute for
             Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and the
             Foundation of the AIC
 
Dates of Symposium:  11-14 Nov. 94
Location:            Williamsburg Lodge Conference Center, Colonial
                     Williamsburg Foundation, Williamsburg VA, USA
Audience:            curators, conservators, art and architectural
                     historians, conservation scientists, collections
                     managers, collectors, students.
 
Registration is still open for this international symposium, which
features forty formal lectures, four hands-on demonstrations and sixteen
poster presentations on topics related to the study and preservation of
historic painted wood.  Speakers will address a diversity of topics,
including twelfth-to-seventeenth century Chinese polychrome sculpture,
Belgian Renaissance altarpieces, Italian picture frames, nineteenth
century Americna Shaker furniture, etc.  The symposium will emphasize new
interpretations of painted wooden objects gained through the increased
collaboration of curators, conservators, art historians and materials
scientists.
 
Fee:  $210  -  AIC members;  $250  -  non-members (postmarked by 10/28)
