Well, humor and satire can be poignant too.  The statement is very telling
about our culture, and cultures are what museums are really all about (even
sci-tech centers are reflective of the cultures which created them).  Humor
and satire are appropriate, because they force (and entice) us to
contemplate our own society; where it's been and where it's going.  I
enjoyed reading the piece because it made me think as well as made me
laugh.  Satire is a very effective tool for reaching the inner consience of
a people.  It helps us to examine ourselves within broader contexts and
perspectives, hopefully making us better human beings.  Gee, museums do
exactly the same thing.

 Who says it is inappropriate for the MUSEUM-L list??  Thank you, Betty.
