Museum of Flight - Seattle, WA
Title: Photo Preservationist Intern
Supervisor: Photo Archivist & Director of Collections

General Function:
Under general supervision, work as part of the creative Curatorial and
Archival Department. This is an unpaid Intern position. The Photo
Preservationist Intern will work primarily with the Photo Archivist and
Director of Collections to catalog, repair, document, and properly store
items in the Museum’s photographic collection.

Qualifications:
1. Masters degree required in Museum Studies, MLS,  or related field.
2. Experience in scanning and processing of digital images.
3. Understanding of copyrights.
4. Experience in working with photographic collections.
5. Excellent computer skills.

Principal Activities:
1. Catalog and care for the photographic collection, includes performing
research to support the cataloging process.
2. Collect, arrange, describe, and preserve the Museum’s photographic
collection of over 100,000 images.  This includes multiple format negatives
in color and black and white, prints, slides, transparencies, lantern
slides, and film and videos of various formats.
3. Assist ataff and visitors with research requests.

Working Conditions:
Portions of the day will require either working at a computer station, or
standing for extended periods of time. The Photo Preservationist Intern
will be part of a professional team in a dynamic and fast-paced atmosphere.

Education, Experience and Training:
Masters degree in Museum Studies, MLS or related field.  Knowledge of
Collections and Archival procedures, and experience and knowledge of
scanning and processing of digital images. Computer skills and experience
using Microsoft Word, Excel and other common programs, and experience with
Image Access Pro preferred.

Title: Graphics Shop Intern
Supervisor: Exhibit Designer & Director of Exhibits

General Function:
Under general supervision, work in the Graphics Shop as a member of the
Graphics Team. This is an unpaid Intern position. The Graphics Shop Intern
will work primarily with the Graphic Designer on the production of graphics
for various uses in exhibits and publications.

Qualifications:
1. At least two years enrollment in an Undergraduate Graphic Design or
similar program required.  Bachelors degree in Graphic Design or related
field preferred.  Relevant experience may apply.
2. Excellent PC computer skills, with some experience in Photoshop 5.5 and
6.0, Freehand 9.0, and Illustrator 9.0 preferred.
3. Experience with Mac’s and Quark Express desireable.

Time Commitment:
Interns should be comfortable working without supervision after a 2-3 week
training period.  A minimun commitment of 6-8 hours per week (can be
extended up to 20 hours per week) is required for either two school
quarters or one semester (approximately 4 months).

Principal Activities:
1. Production of graphics including event signage, exhibit labels, exhibit
content panels, and directional signage.
2. Printing and assembling of sign pannels.
3. Opportunities for exhibit graphic design.
4. Installation of exhibits and related signage.

Enrolement in a  Bachelors degree program in Graphic Design or related
field.  Computer skills and experience using Photoshop, Freehand, and
Illustrator, along with Microsoft Word, Excel and other common programs.
