As others seemed to be interested in this discussion, I am posting this to
the list. Hopefully, anyone not interested found the subject heading
descriptive enough that they could delete it before reading this.

Mr. Byron Johnson:

I had a three-month, full-time internship at the Science Museum of
Minnesota back in the summer of 1992. The internship involved completing
special projects that had been budgeted in a grant they received that
summer. The museum was able to pay me $9/hr (the position was full-time,
but museum policy stated that because it was temporary I could not receive
museum health benefits). The internship was a great learning opportunity,
and I felt blessed to receive a full-time, well paid internship. In
addition, I was able to get my foot in the door and am now working for the
museum as an evaluator/market researcher. The process was sometimes bumpy
when funding was not available to keep me on full-time, but so far things
have worked out very well.

I hope this provides you with some helpful information. If I missed
anything or you have any further questions I would be glad to comment
further.

Sincerely,

Bill Stirrat

paid internship programs...I'd also be glad to hear from students about
what they were paid (IF they were paid) and whether they considered it
adequate.
