At Thomas & Hirsch we search for candidates in as many ways possible:
referrals from our museum colleagues; through our extensive nationwide
network and database; from unsolicited resumes sent to us daily;  through
graduate placement and alumni offices; etc. Posting resumes on Museum-L is
not particularly useful; targeting a few employment sites is a much better
way to get noticed.  Indigo Nights maintains a useful site and many museums
post their employment opportunities on their own sites.

Those seeking employment can always send a cover letter and resume to us
(although we tend to specialize in senior and executive management
positions, and exhibitions and collections staff).  For less experienced
staff, it's not enough to tell us you want to work in a museum, or that your
degree will be granted by such and such a date.  Be specific.  Focus.  Have
a position or two in mind; tell us what your skills, experience and
strengths are; what areas of the country you would consider; why you are the
ideal candidate.

Currently we are recruiting for these New York City positions:  Capital
Campaign Manager; Exhibition Manager; Curators/Specialists in Latin American
Art, American Furniture and Decorative Arts.  For the Baltimore Museum of
Art:  Director of Visitor Services; Director of Creative Services (do not
contact the museum directly).

resumes we receive each week, we are not able to respond immediately to
everyone.  As many of you know, however, we do indeed keep resumes and
