Hi gang,

I am interested in adding the capability to digitally produce museum
quality labels to my repertoire. I have produced various "digital"
documents before and send the files to service bureas for printing for
various outputs, but not on a large scale for permanent use. I would
appreciate any advice from museum exhibits or graphic designers (or anyone
else) who has produced labels on a computer and deals with a service bureau
for final production and printing.

Since my background is in computers, I find that I usually speak half of
the language needed to communicate my needs to these folks. If you can
recommend a book which covers terms and design information needed for me to
bridge the communication gap between digital graphic design for computer
screens and designing graphics on computer for various printed methods, I
would would appreciate the info.

Also, what are the things to look out for in design and more importantly,
if you could recommend any firms which accept digital file formats who have
produced labels for you in the past and are able to bridge the
communication gap and are willing to do the extra work to insure output
meets expectation.

Any horror stories or "whatever you do, don't try that" scenarios are
welcome.
