Good afternoon, fellow MuseumLers - I have also used the closed-cell
polyethylene tubes sold as swim toys at my local discounter ("swim
noodles"?), covered with stockinette, muslin, Tyvek crate liner or softwrap,
whichever is appropriate. The swim noodles come in about 2-1/2" diameter
with a central hole, about 5' long and in a variety of colours that I, as a
textile conservator, rarely get to see (bright pastels). Each tube cost less
than $2.00 as I recall. Yesterday, I saw one that looked more like a plank
(about 1/2" thick and about 4"-5" wide) that I want to check out.
