I have always regarded picture lights to be one of the great enemies of most
artwork however I was wondering if any forward progress had been made in
this area, or if it's still the subject of conservator's nightmares.

Has any manufacturer come up with a picture light of the type that attaches
to the rear of the frame and illuminates from above which doesn't:

-heat the painting to the point of baking the surface.
-light only a tight spot at the top of the piece
-have gaudy cords hanging down behind the piece.

Please respond off-list with any advice.

Rob
