Global change and evolution projects manager, Paleontological Research 
Institution and its Museum of the Earth, Ithaca, NY

Description: The Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) seeks an 
individual to manage the global change project and paleontological research 
partnership project at the PRI and its Museum of the Earth. PRI educational 
programming makes accessible the history of life on Earth, the processes by 
which the Earth system works, and the science by which we understand it.

The goal of PRI's paleontological research partnership projects is to 
engage classes of precollege students in authentic research to improve 
teaching and learning on Earth and life processes, such as evolution, 
sedimentation, and geologic time. Specifically, the position will work in 
collaboration with the Cornell Dept of Education on the NSF-funded project 
"Fossil Finders," curricula for 5th to 9th grade students centered around 
high resolution study of middle Devonian faunas of upstate New York. The 
position involves collection, curation, and shipping of samples, data 
management, and coordination with teachers participating in the project.

The goal of PRI's global change project is to help audiences of all ages 
and backgrounds understand the science behind human understanding of human 
impacts on climate change, biodiversity loss, and other large scale 
environmental issues. The position involves expanding and maintaining PRI's 
global change website, working with exhibits staff on associated Museum of 
the Earth exhibits, and working with other education staff on organizing 
guest speakers for public presentations, school presentations, 
publications, and other forms of outreach.

The two aspects of the position (research partnerships and global change) 
will receive approximately equal effort. The position will involve some 
travel, primarily around upstate New York State, for sample collection and 
presentations. This position will report to the Director of Public Programs 
and work closely with other PRI education and exhibits staff, with the 
Fossil Finders group in the Cornell Dept of Education, and with the PRI 
collections staff.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree (or higher) required in Earth sciences or 
related area of natural history; strong content knowledge in some 
combination of Earth sciences, evolutionary biology, and paleontology 
stongly preferred. Experience in science education, museums, curation, 
and/or research helpful. The ideal candidate will have interpersonal skills 
and strong skills in organization and project management.  This position 
may especially appeal to entry level or early career candidates passionate 
about science education and public understanding of the nature of science. 
Candidates should have reliable transportation (travel reimbursed) for 
sample collection, outreach, and meetings.

a major natural history museum in Ithaca, NY. The Paleontological Research 
Institution, founded in 1932, is a dynamic fast-moving institution with one
