So what do *you* call the person who chooses the actual works for an
exhibition, if not the curator?

I think there is a distinction between those who are solely curators of
collections and those who curate exhibitions.  There are a number of
curators who are not attached to organizations of collections and are "for
hire," so to speak.  In that instance, their judgement IS most certainly
called for.  Lisa is being asked to do both for her organization.
