Hi Collin,
AASLH (the American Association for State and
Local History) has three good resources for you.
Technical Leaflet # 91, "Designing Your Exhibits:
Seven Ways to Look at an Artifact," (1976) by
University of Minnesota, Duluth, Professor
Emeritus Fred Schroeder is available for purchase
for $5.00 at www.aaslh.org
Video #473VT is "Interpreting History Through
Three-Dimensional Objects," by Byron Price is
available for purchase for $19.95 or may be
borrowed free of charge for members through the
website.
Video #477VT is "Learning History With
Artifacts," by Barbara Carson. It is also $19.95
to buy or members can borrow it for just the cost
of the return postage.

Good luck with your project~

Subject: Intepretation of Museum Objects

Hello,

I am working on paper re: the interpretation of
objects in
museums--specifically archaeological artifacts
with limited provenience.

I have read Susan Pearce's "Museums Objects and
Collections" and have a
working knowledge of Panofsky, Fleming, Prown,
Elliott and Pearce's models
for object study. I have also read Karp and
Lavine's "Exhibiting Cultures."

Can anyone recommend additional models, or sources
for object study/object
interpretation? Can anyone recommend sources for
the ethics concerned with
museum object interpretation?

Thank you
