I apologize for not sticking to the topic of museums, but this does
relate to internet users and parents. In an attempt to finish a class project,
I am trying to conduct a survey over the internet. If you are not interested
just delete this message.

Read this before answering any questions. All responses will be kept
confidential. The issue of the survey revolves around the newly passed
Communications Decency Act of 1996. The act was passed as a method of
protecting minors from pornography on the internet. The internet is
characterized by the easy and free flow of information around the world.
(Any government regulation would have to be on a worldwide scale.)
Internet users and people who believe in the right to free speech,
believe that this is an infringement because it would be based on the
most stringent standards of decency, thus having a stifling effect on
the users.

1) Please state your name, occupation, and gender.

2) How familiar are you with the internet? How often do you use it?
What do you use it for? Where do you access it from (home, work, public
place i.e. library)?

3) What is your reaction to the new law? Why do you feel that way?

4) What effect will this law have on you? Will it cause a stifling of
your normal activity on the internet? Why?

5) Do you feel that the government is an effective means of protecting
children from pornography through the internet? Why? Do you think it
will be able to kept up with the rapid changes in technology? Why?

6) What is your reaction to the new products and services that can block
access to unwanted material from a user's computer? (An example is
Surfwatch Software--a product that blocks known pornographic sites on the
World Wide Web.) If you were in need of such a service, would you
consider such a product over government regulations? Why?

7) Do you know or have any other options that might be useful in
providing protection of the children and of the right to free speech?

Thank you! I appreciate all your time and information. Send all
