I have a large collection (thousands of items mostly on paper, but actual
umbrellas and parasols as well) which I would like to will to a museum, and
since this is the only clause in my will which is not completed, I wonder
whether there is any collection in the U.S. that would entertain a
discussion with me about the myriad of items involved, including toys,
banks, kimonos, underwear, ties, blouses, shirts, shower curtains,
tablecloths, glassware, dishes, mugs, framed works of art on paper,
paintings, kitsch, antiques, 70 volumes of paper ephemera, artist books,
artist postcards, artist broadsides, 250 antiquarian and contemporary
children's books and histories of umbrellas, etc. I would entertain a
catalog of these items using the cataloging system of the institution who
wants the collection, so long as I would be compensated for my time. The
collection is still extant and growing, but I would like to keep it
together. Realia and books and magazines too, and many photographs (many
taken by me in black and white and color) as well as many photographs from
the 19th and 20th centuries purchased or given to me, including tintypes,
etc. Posters are included as well. My obsession has continued since 1978
and will continue probably until I die, but I need to find a home for the
collection.
