The Franklin Institute
Philadelphia, PA
Vice President of Exhibit Development

Founded in 1824, the mission of The Franklin Institute is "to foster the
development of a scientifically and technologically literate society by
stimulating interest in science and technology and strengthening science and
technology learning." In pursuit of this mission, the Institute maintains
an exemplary museum with innovative exhibits and programs; interprets the
impact and social consequences of science and technology within the context
of the past, present and future; supports partnerships with educational
institutions, corporations, and other non-profit and public organizations;
provides a forum for the discussion of current and emerging science and
technology issues; and recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievement.
The Institute is a leader in utilizing new technologies to facilitate
learning as well as distributing its intellectual resources through the use
of advanced information technologies to local, national and international
audiences.

The Vice President will be solely responsible for conceptualization and
design of new exhibitions, and will play an important leading role in
establishing an institutional aesthetic standard. He/she will be expected to
transform the Institute's exhibit spaces into exciting, visitor-friendly
environments that will draw increased attendance from a broader segment of
the community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding and
knowledge of what appeals to people of various ages and from diverse ethnic
and socioeconomic backgrounds in the design of exhibit and interactive
experiences.

A minimum of a bachelor's degree from a college or university is required; a
graduate degree is preferred. Continuing education in such areas as exhibit
design, business management, marketing, museum management or related field
would be a plus.
