Patti - based on significant collections management work we've done,
beginning in approximately the year 2000, we calculated that the cost per
artifact is $18 to properly store, document & catalogue and photograph each
object. That cost excludes the cost of the building envelope, ongoing HVAC
costs and what the private sector would view as an ongoing storage fee. We
didn't work out the cost per square foot.

Dear Colleagues,
Has anyone gone through the exercise of determining the value of 1 square
foot of processed storage space, i.e. how much is the space really worth
for an object that has been acquired, documented, photographed, conserved,
etc. ?
I would be curious to hear your results if you have.
