Pardon me while I cringe. *wince* That's really bad for the trees
unless they were stood up by their pomels which I'm guessing no.

Saddles need to be placed on racks. You can either buy racks from the
local tack shop or catalog or make them yourself. I don't know if you
would need to cover them with archival cloth or paper if you used
metal racks or treated wood. You can even get specially designed tack
boxes with racks in them that are the size of footlockers. They're
pricey but might be worth it if you have limited space.
