The Panhandle-Plains Historical Society ( 501(c)3 organization ) owns
the collections housed in the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum,
which is a state-owned, state-operated institution, part of the Texas
A & M University system. This has been the case since 1933 and so
far, so good. However, the Society's Board is currently working on a
document to lay out a plan of action in the event something goes
wrong with the relationship. There are some sticky questions about
collections care (if the state has been paying for care of
collections since 1933 through staffing and ohusing, does it own a
share of the collection?), etc. If you're interested in seeing this
document when it is finished (which could be many months) please send
a letter (yep, snail mail) to:

Walt Davis, Director
Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum

He doesn't have email yet.
