The Arizona Capitol Museum in Phoenix is currently recruiting 4 part-time Museum Educators for our education team. Maximum of 19 hours per week, $9.75 per hour. Position to start in September. Go to www.hr.az.gov to apply.

JOB SUMMARY
 
The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Arizona Secretary of State, provides public access to public information fosters historical/cultural collaborative projects and ensures Arizona’s history is documented and preserved. The Mission of the Arizona Capitol Museum (AZCM) is to connect people with Arizona Government - Past and Present. The AZCM receives more than 60,000 visitors annually, including about 25,000 students on field trips. Museum Educators provide support to the AZCM through interpretation of exhibits detailing Arizona government, politics and history to tour groups and casual visitors; assisting with educational programs; and assisting in other areas as needed from September through May.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leading guided tours of the Arizona Capitol Museum and legislative buildings, explaining governmental structure & procedures, as well as Arizona history
Interacting with visitors in exhibit areas by asking/answering questions and explaining artifacts and activities
Conducting periodic rounds of exhibit areas ensuring all displays are in neat & working order
Assisting with workshops, discussions, and other educational events occurring at the Arizona Capitol Museum
Other duties as assigned
Due to the temporary part-time status of this position, benefits will not be offered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
 
The successful candidate will be: 
A people person with an outgoing friendly personality
Able to speak in front of groups of children and adults
Walk/stand for extended periods of time
Strong customer service skills
Interested in Arizona history and/or government
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Available three to four days during the week, as well as Saturdays
Available in the morning/early afternoon
Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in Civics/Government, History, or Education
Previous experience teaching or working with children
Previous experience in a museum or educational environment
Fluency in other languages including sign language is a plus
