The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is advertising for a Building
Manager for the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center located at Dulles
International Airport in Virginia.  The new center will open in December
2003, and has approximately 769,000 gross square feet (when completed),
including 2 large exhibition hangers, and 485 seat large format theater, a
wing of office suites and support space, three gift shops, 10 large public
restrooms, restaurant, a restoration area, and archival storage.  Outside
the building there is a sculpture and memorial walk, a 2000 space parking
area, access road, service roads, and several support buildings.  Incumbent
will be responsible for ensuring that the facility and its grounds are a
clean and safe environment for staff and visitors, and supporting several
hundred special events, public programs, meetings, and conferences
annually.  Incumbent is responsible for ensuring all of the above through
the management of a full service facility management contract.  Applicants
must have 1) knowledge of the principles and practices of a comprehensive
building management program, including the management, operations and
maintenance of items such as building fabric, building operations and
services, custodial and grounds operations, and special events and
specialized support; 2) knowledge of the responsibilities of contract
management, to include functions such as the development of policies and
work standards, analysis of staffing and assignments, resolution of
problems, and assessment of services provided.  This is a federal position
grade 12 ($55,694-$72,400).  Closes September 10, 2002.  For application
