RECRUITMENT NOTICE
Summer and Fall Exhibition Internships

In preparation for The Bead Museum’s next major exhibition comparing
beaded wedding adornment from around the world, we are seeking an intern
to help with all phases of planning, including research, design, and
installation.

The Bead Museum is also undergoing its first Institutional Assessment
through the Museum Assessment program of AAM and IMLS.  The timing means
an excellent opportunity to help review all the Museum’s exhibitions for
beginning a master audience development plan.

This Program Internship is a volunteer internship in a small organization
allowing for maximum flexibility and behind-the-scenes experience.

Qualifications

• Junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in anthropology,
archaeology, art and design, history, museum studies, or a related field

• Basic knowledge of museum practices

• Interest in future museum profession

• Record of responsibility at past jobs

• Interest in beads and beadwork

• Attention to detail

• Available at least 10-15 hours per week for the summer and/or fall

About The Bead Museum—Established in 1995 by the Bead Society of Greater
Washington, and opened to the public in Washington, D.C. in 1997, it
serves 6,000-8,000 visitors annually with exhibitions, including “A Bead
Timeline: From Prehistory to the Present” and “Naga Tribal Adornment:
Signatures of Status and Self;” a Library with 1,400 books, periodicals,
and audio-visuals about beads and related fields; and a Museum Shop.  The
Museum is served by public transportation and within walking distance of
Chinatown and the National Mall.
