An Iowa colleague of mine has a question for the List:

"Here is one I need your advice on. We were just donated a piece of the old
city street car track. It had been paved over several times and was under a
few feet of dirt. The section of the rail we have is about 2 1/2 - 3 feet long.
Its covered in heavy amounts of dirt and there are remnants of brick and
concrete on it. So, here is the question, how much cleaning should be done on
this? I would like to get some of the heavy scaled rust off, but really don't
mind leaving parts of the old street on there. What's your opinion? I can send
some pics if you like."

Thanks in advance for any advice and observations.
