Curator of Collections

The Oregon Historical Society is seeking a curator for a full-time position to
build, preserve, research, document and interpret artifacts of Western history.
OHS collections consists of costume, textiles, art, furniture, ethnographic, and
historical artifacts related to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest from pre-history
to contemporary.
Qualifications: working knowledge of statutes, regulations, and professional
standards relating to conservation, care, handling, and storage of artifacts,
collections management (including computer-based systematics), appraisal and
museum practices.  Demonstrated high level of research skills and proven ability
to communicate both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals.
Requirements: M.A. in History, Museum Studies or related field.  Academic
specialization or interest in U.S. history, demonstrated interest in Pacific
Northwest history preferred.  Background in conservation and computer skills
necessary (Argus, WordPerfect, Excel, Access preferred).  Minimum five years
of progressively responsible experience in a museum environment, with at least
two in a curatorial capacity.  Supervisory experience preferred.
Beginning salary $33,000, excellent benefits.
