Missing from this conversation so far is any mention of the fact that
different people learn in different ways ("learning styles" or "modalities,"
as exhibits folks and educators call it). Some folks learn best by looking,
some by touching, some by reading, some by doing, etc. By no means am I
suggesting we must sacrifice irreplaceable works of art; rather, museums
need to consider the needs of their guests, and present their information in
a variety of formats, so the largest possible portion of the audience can
have a meaningful experience.
