                     The Right Honorable John G. Diefenbaker Centre
 
                                        DIRECTOR
 
Applications are invited for the position of Director for the Diefenbaker Centre located
at the University of Saskatchewan.  Reporting to the Diefenbaker Centre Management
Committee, the Director oversees the operations of the Centre which is a broadly-based
educational and research organization for the study of Canadian history, politics and
government.  The Centre has archival responsibility for the Diefenbaker collection of
papers and maintains a museum displaying various aspects of Canadian history and
politics.  The Centre also produces and delivers educational programs focusing on
Canadian history and government for schools and other interested groups.
 
In addition to directing the daily operations of the Centre, the Director is also
responsible for:  all the planning functions - strategic, short and long term;
administering all the financial aspects of the Centre - including budget preparation and
budget administration; all the personnel and staffing issues - recruitment, training,
work allocation, performance evaluation and discipline; the security and maintenance of
the collection of the facility - archival issues and processes; actively pursing the
development, selection and design of in-house and travelling exhibits; supervising the
promotional, publicity and education activities of the Centre; representing the Centre
in official and semi-official capacities.
 
Qualifications:  A graduate degree in Canadian Political Science or History and several
years of relevant experience in a museum, archival or interpretive centre; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience are required.  The successful
candidate must be computer literate with demonstrated experience in budget preparation
and administration, planning, staff supervision, promotion and publicity, and collection
security and maintenance.  Candidates should have proven leadership skills and the
ability to interact effectively with others.
 
Term:  Five year renewable term.
 
Salary:  The anticipated starting salary will be in the range of $40,000 to $50,000 per
annum.  A competitive benefits package is also available.
