On May 9, 10 and 11 the 3 Field Engineer Squadron from Ottawa held a
training excercise at the Smiths Falls Railway Museum. Their primary
task was to move steam locomotive #1112 approximetely 30 metres north
to a new exhibit location.

Beginning at 0730 on the morning of the 10th the enginners began to
lay the 50 metres of track required to make this move. Some six tons
of ties and rails were moved into place and assembled. All of this
was accomplished without the aid of heavy equipment. To complicate
matters the track was laid on a complex S-curve, to connect it with
existing trackage within the museum site.

At 1400 on Sunday the 11th the museum's winch truck began to move the
125 ton locomotive onto the new track. This was the first time the
wheels of the engine had turned since its arrival at the museum five
years ago.

The volunteers at the museum would like to publicly thank the 3 Field
Engineer Squadron for their valuble assistance in the completion of
this project.
