 The Office of Senate Curator implements the policies and programs of
the United States Senate Commission on Art [USC §188b], which was
established in 1968 to accept, supervise, hold, place, and protect all works
of art, historical objects, and exhibits in the Senate wing of the United
States Capitol and in the Senate Office Buildings.  The staff administers
the historic Old Senate and Old Supreme Court Chambers in the U.S. Capitol,
and advises on preservation projects for the Senate.  The office seeks an
experienced, innovative, and highly motivated professional for the position
of associate curator.  The individual will work directly with the curator to
implement the Senate Commission on Art's legislative mandate, and will play
a central role in developing polices and procedures related to the Senate's
art and historical collections. The associate curator will administer the
offices curatorial programs, and oversee the collections manager and
registrar. The individual will also take the lead in the development of
exhibitions and publications related to the institution's fine and
decorative art collections. The associate curator will present lectures as
appropriate, and represent the U.S. Senate in the museum world.  The
candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of 19th century American fine
and decorative arts, and have a working knowledge of all areas of museum
operations, procedures, and policies.  The ideal candidate will have
excellent oral and written communication skills; be capable of carrying out
complex projects with minimal supervision; function effectively as a
supervisor; provide strong leadership; and work well with colleagues in a
team environment.  Qualifications: a minimum of eight years' museum
experience, with at least five years in a supervisory role, and an advanced
degree in the field(s) of art history, museum studies, or American history.
