CURATORIAL MANAGER - Job description 
General Statement 
 
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights seeks an ambitious and inspiring Curatorial Manager who is drawn to the exciting work of building and implementing new and innovative exhibitions for this internationally-regarded center, which will open a new building in 2013.  The new NCCHR is a flagship project of Atlanta’s emerging Pemberton Place district.  The Center will serve as a catalyst for engaging continued dialogue around the subject of human and civil rights both locally and globally in the area-which is home to one of the country's most powerful Civil Rights story.  Designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Freelon Group and exhibition designers Gallagher and Associates this innovative center will draw visitors of all backgrounds and ages. 
 
Definition and Nature of the Work 
The Curatorial Manager will: 
  
•	Manage the timely delivery of the curatorial teams’ work in service of the Center’s planned development, fabrication, and installation of the new permanent exhibition for both the Civil and Human Rights galleries. 
•	Facilitate communication and work flow between the curatorial teams and other museum teams, including Design, A/V production and Education. 
•	Promote and foster the unique vision and mission of the museum in support of the Executive Director. 
•	Coordinate the work of the curatorial team that currently will include two guest curators, two curatorial assistants, and additional curator/scholar consultants who are engaged for project specific work. 
•	Assume a leadership role as liaison between the Chief Executive Officer, the Content Advisory Councils and Subcommittees and the exhibition design team, including coordinating reviews and approvals. 
•	Work directly with the Design team and A/V producer to facilitate content development of exhibitions currently under development for the Center. 
•	Represent the museum’s mission and the activities of the curatorial department to potential donors, partners, the media and members of the Board. 
•	Initiate and document formal and timely reviews of all curatorial content with the assistance of the Executive Director and Advisory Council and Subcommittees. 
•	Serve as an ambassador/liaison with to the Atlanta community and beyond, including the academic and educational community, to promote support and collaboration.  
•	Oversee the development of a collections “wish-list” for both Civil and Human Rights to support the exhibitions and visitor experience. 

 
Job Requirements 
 
•	Background in a related profession of education, media, museums, history or curation. 
•	5-10 years experience in content development and/or production of exhibitions, films, books, etc. 
•	Self-motivation and resourcefulness to produce new projects from the ground up. 
•	Excellent written and oral communication skills.  
•	Project and time management and task/goal focused proven track record. 
•	Passion for the topics of human and civil rights in storytelling. 
•	Ability to work with multiple personality types and consensus building. 
•	Experience working on topics of controversy or sensitive subject matter. 
•	A demonstrated record of accomplishment in the person’s field of interest.  
•	Computer and social networking skills. 
•	Management experience and ability to work in team environment. 

This is a full-time position in Atlanta, GA.

Salary: $60K - $80K based on experience.
