The position is based at the Patrick Ranch, a new emerging agricultural
museum facility on 28 acres in rural Northern California with a c.1875
sixteen room brick mansion. The collection is the accumulation of three
generations (150 yrs) of intertwined families.


COLLECTION SPECIALIST / PROJECT CATALOGUER
Position duration:  Full-Time for two years.

The Chico Museum Association seeks a project cataloger for an IMLS Museums
for America grant funded project.  During the two-year life of the project
the cataloger will, with a team of volunteers, identify, describe, mark,
measure, and photograph approximately 18,000 artifacts and documentary
materials and enter data into PastPerfect.  Catalogers must be able to work
with a volunteer team and meet project deadlines.

Major responsibilities: 
.	Work with a team of volunteers to identify, describe, mark, measure,
photograph, and store artifacts, documents, and photographs for a single
large collection.
.	Data enter all information into a Past Perfect database.

Requirements:     
.	Bachelor's degree / Master's degree a plus.
.	At least one year experience in collection cataloguing, artifact
handling and data entry or a combination of experience and equivalent
training in museum studies courses.
.	Ability to analyze and associate visual as well as written
information
.	Ability to write clear and concise comprehensive descriptive
statements
.	Basic computer skills
.	Ability to keep multiple sets of records organized
.	Understanding of and skill in artifact handling techniques
.	Knowledge of permanent numbering methods
.	Ability to appropriately name artifacts using standard Nomenclature
for museum cataloguing
.	Ability to work with and supervise volunteers
.	Ability to monitor work of self and others, and to catch and correct
inaccuracies.  

Requires good computer skills, the ability to analyze and associate
information, and to write clear, comprehensive descriptive statements. 

Salary $24,000 year, with benefits; position open until filled. Screening
