The POMONA COLLEGE MUSEUM OF ART
announces a

Multicultural Undergraduate Summer Internship
supported by a grant from the J. Paul Getty Trust

An internship is available for a student to work
full-time at the Pomona College Museum of Art for a
ten-week period between June and August 2002. The
Getty internship is intended for members of groups
currently under-represented in museums and the visual
arts, particularly individuals of African American,
Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific
Islander descent.

The internship will include projects in three areas:
curatorial, registration, and education. Working with
Museum staff, the intern’s responsibilities will
include assisting the curator in a variety of tasks
related to exhibitions scheduled for the coming year
(for example, research, initiating loan forms,
compiling exhibition checklists, preparing label copy
and educational texts, among others); working with the
registrar on collections research, record updating,
and helping to maintain and further develop the
Museum’s public information kiosk and Web site.
Depending on the skills and interests of the intern,
additional duties might include design of exhibition
catalogues for Project Series (contemporary)
exhibitions, gallery and studio visits with the
curator, and assisting the preparator during
installation. Educational tasks may include writing
didactic labels and preparing outreach programs for
campus.

The intern will attend four events sponsored by the
Getty Trust during the internship period and will be
required to submit a detailed report at its
conclusion.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants are not required to have
previous museum experience, but must be currently
enrolled undergraduates who will have completed one
semester of college by June 2002 and will not graduate
before December 2002. Interns must be residents of, or
attending college in, the Los Angeles area. Previous
Pomona College Museum of Art Getty interns are not
eligible for consideration. The internship carries a
stipend of $3,500, which is subject to payroll taxes.

HOW TO APPLY: Interested students should submit a
resume, a letter of application that explains why the
internship is of interest and describes relevant study
and/or experience, and the names, telephone numbers,
and e-mail addresses of three references who may be
contacted. Applications should be sent to Rebecca
McGrew, Curator, Pomona College Museum of Art, 333
College Way, Claremont, CA 91711-6344. Please call
909-607-7358 if you have any questions.

DEADLINE: MONDAY, MAY 6, 2002
